Block Six

This is Block Six for the Moose on the Porch Layer Cake Quilt Along….

I like this block. It was quick and easy to put together and has an interesting design. I was unhappy with the way my Block Five turned out. I am going to make another one when I get some extra time. I will put Block Five together a little differently next time to make sure the seams line up correctly.

I am having some issues with the fabric line I picked. This is “It’s a Hoot” by MoMo for Moda. The colors are wonderful, but the designs all tend to be somewhat large in scale so for some of the blocks, it’s been hard to find fabrics that compliment but don’t overwhelm each other. Another lesson learned.

  1. Love your block 6. I was unhappy with my block 5 to. I am using Hunky Dory and while the fabrics are gorgeous there probably isn’t enough variety of prints ie there are lots of big and busy prints. It certainly has been a challenge. It will be interesting to see the setting design.

  2. I also had trouble with block 5, but once I got the gist I think it would have come out better. I will try another one also. Love the block 6 it was fun and easy to do. My color ways are in the purples, I have lots of scraps and smaller chuncks of fabric to use up. I had done a quilt in purple for a friend and most of these are left over from that.

    I love your block 6.

  3. Thank you so much for confirming I wasn’t the only one! I think the instruction to place the strip-pieced blocks on top of each other was a mistake. Next time I will cut them individually.

I am using “It’s a Hoot” and there are a lot of large scale prints and it is really hard finding a way to use them in these block. Another lesson learned!
