Block Two – Layer Cake Quiltalong

This is block two for the Layer Cake Quiltalong being hosted by Konda at Moose on the Porch Quilts:

I am using “It’s a Hoot” by Momo for Moda.  It is a very colorful line of fabric (with lots of owls).  The two brown fabrics in this block looked like they had more contrast when I originally placed them side by side.  The brown polka dot is much darker than the floral, but the difference has disappeared now that they are in smaller pieces and sewn into the background.  Oh, well, I still like the block!
The directions for the block called for the use of half square triangle papers, but I used my new June Taylor half-square triangle ruler instead.  It is a very handy tool!  I will tell you more about it on Toolbox Thursday.

  1. Great job! I can’t wait to hear more about the ruler. I did her other method which is how I usually do them but I’d love to hear about other ways.

  2. Hi there – LOVE your block! I see that you’re also a designer for this quilt along. Very cool. I used the June Taylor ruler as well, and really like it. Make HSTs a breeze and accurate. Neat we’re doing the same quilt along and round robin Happy Thanksgiving!
